Pastoral Vacancy
Somerset West Baptist Church is looking for a Pastor with a strong leaning towards music ministry and media.
This Pastor will be part of the Pastoral Eldership Team and so this would be first and foremost a Pastoral position. Due to the candidates’ strong leaning towards music and media, the opportunity avails itself for a passionate, creative leader who loves helping people encounter God through worship and the teaching of the Word.
The candidate will therefore play a key role in shaping, through visionary leadership, meaningful multi-generational worship in the church and its various services and ministries as well as inspiring teams, developing people and training up future generations in this ministry.
This Pastoral role would combine worship leadership with pastoral ministry, teaching, creativity, and team development, alongside the Pastoral and Eldership Team, taking into account the core mission statement of Somerset West Baptist Church - “Forward with God - to be a fellowship of Christ followers, growing in the Faith and impacting our Community.”
We are open to candidates from a range of ministry backgrounds - whether that is someone who has served primarily as a worship pastor, a teaching pastor with a strong heart for musical worship and media, or a pastor with a proven track record in team development and musical worship ministry. What matters most is the candidate's spiritual maturity, pastoral character, theological integrity and a strong love for the local church and its gathered worship.
Key Elements of the Position:
1. Preaching & Teaching
Key Responsibilities are, inter alia:
● Prepare and deliver biblically grounded and relevant sermons on a regular basis across all services, including special services.
● Collaborate closely with the Pastoral team to align sermons and worship to effectively grow and develop the ongoing biblical and theological formation of the congregation.
● Model a life of personal worship, prayer, teachability, ethical conduct, personal growth and wholehearted commitment to SWBC.
2. Worship, Music, Media & Tech
Key Responsibilities are, inter alia:
● Provide vision, leadership and direction theologically and spiritually as well as creatively for the gathered worship life of SWBC across Sunday services and other key church gatherings, ensuring they are Christ centred, scripture based, authentic and sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
● Lead and oversee the Worship and Technical Teams (sound, presenter, livestream) ensuring day-to-day operational management, technical operations, volunteer scheduling, equipment, rosters and media workflows.
● Develop, disciple, and shepherd worship and technical leaders and volunteers, building spiritually healthy teams characterised by excellence, creativity, teamwork, servant leadership, and a genuine love for people.
● Lead worship personally, where gifted, and identify, mentor, and release new leaders within the scope of this ministry.
● Work closely with the Pastoral Team in providing input and oversight for special services including Easter, Christmas, Baptisms, funerals, Holiday Bible Club and other significant church events.
● Provide Pastoral input on song selection, theology of worship and the overall worship culture of SWBC.
Qualifications:
● A recognised degree in Theology or Ministry, or an equivalent qualification.
Experience & Attributes
We are looking for someone who has a clear, credible and growing faith in Jesus Christ and brings both ministry experience and a heart for people.
● Proven experience in pastoral ministry within a medium to large sized church context – including preaching, discipleship and care.
● Spiritual character and leadership consistent with biblical standards for Eldership and pastoral ministry.
● Full agreement with the SWBC statement of faith, doctrine, values and constitution.
● Good organisational and planning skills, including the ability to manage and coordinate people, services, events, resources, and budgets.
● A willingness to serve in any other capacity, within reason, as required by the church executive.
